Welcome again to this week's word for the week. Well the new year is finally here. The first thing we all should do is to be thankful to the Lord for allowing us to see a new year. It is truly a milestone as the years go by in life and it is one we should always honor God for. While the excitement is everywhere at the moment there will be a battle in order to keep that excitement. Rather we like or not, real life does not stop for any of us. The problems you had last in 2020 do not simply disappear just because it's a new year. You still have to fight.

That brings us to an important thing that we should always start the new year off with. It is called prayer. So many people go about making their own plans and then wonder why they do not work. If there is trouble then that's when they want to invite God onboard. The question is why not start out with God? Why not seek Him early while He may be found? Why wait until your plan does not work before you finally decided to see what His plan is? How many times will that cycle be repeated in your life?

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you want things to be different you have got to be willing to do something different. If standing around is not working why not try to pray? If all of your best efforts are not working why not hit the reset button and let God show you the proper pathway? There have been countless things in your life that could have and should have been avoided. Do you really want to see God's plan work for you? Then dare to everything His way.

Self-control means that you restrain your thoughts, plans, and ideas. It means you exercise patience. Patience is not just simply waiting on God. It's how you wait on God that defines patience. You can wait on God while doing your own thing. You can wait on God while praying and seeking Him. Either choice is yours to make but trust me, only one of them will work. This is the year where one abandons their own plans and follow those the Lord has established for them. This is the year we win through obedience!

A sign on the wall in our church does not change how you live in your home. It is just a reminder when you walk in there what the plan and pathway should be. Rather you follow that or not is up to you. There's a blessing for our obedience. There's a curse when we refuse and rebel. God wants us on the winning side of life but we have to want that same thing or else we will choose opposite of Him. You can make the best meal in the world but if people decide that it's too far to travel then no one will discover how good it is. We have to still sacrifice for Christ.

As I do every year at this time, I am issuing a challenge for you to truly seek God. Find out what His individual plan and purpose is for you. Find out the things He wants to work on and build in your life. Find out the result of learning about peace for an entire year. Calm down and just be thankful. Take time to smile. Take time to laugh. Take time to just enjoy the presence of God. Yes, there is a time to exchange your laughter for weeping but joy still comes in the morning. This is the morning time of the new year. Enjoy it! Let this be the year where you can look back on it later and say that was the year I got it together with myself and God. The best is yet to come. Are you ready?

May the Lord continue to bless and keep you in His grace,
