Welcome again to this week's word for the week. I really wrestled this week as far as which direction to go in for this word. There are so many things happening around us and it truly feels like it's one thing after another. In the midst of all of this there is one word that cannot be ignored. Pray. I know, if you look at the comments in the articles of current events it's the one thing people outright say either doesn't work or is not needed. Yet, nothing is moving in the right direction if they would just be honest.

I realize that there is a real push in our society to ignore God. It seems anything that concerns Him in conversation is dismissed. I'm going to say something here that may shock some of you but some hard truth is needed. That's fine about what "they" say. It doesn't even matter what they say. It should not have any effect on us at all. We don't live and have our being by what they say. We exist because God said. In spite of our failures, shortcomings, and setbacks we are still here because God said. The world doesn't have to understand that or get that in even the smallest way. That's our part and place.

We don't have power of the will of others. We can only pray. It's up to us to not give up on God and realize that in spite of what this world says prayer still works! We don't need a platform on the corner. We simply need a small closet if need be. That's right, we can do great things in quiet places! I'm not a fan of many of the things we currently see but I know how to pray. Our faith, trust, and hope should not be in others doing the right thing. It needs to be that God will get the glory. Like it or not, sometimes we see God the most when the troubles are at their peak.

I want to close by reminding you of a few important things concerning God. He's not limited by what's going on. He's not bound to what they say. The troubles can rage around us and yet our God can keep us safe and secure. There's only one thing He asks of us and that is that we live for Him and honor Him. He's got the rest. Whatever your fears are cares are right now I sincerely pray that you will rest well knowing God is in control. We don't walk by sight but we sure should walk by faith. Faith simply means you trust God to be more than what you can currently see. While we see doom and despair around us know that God has deposited peace within us! Peace, be still.

May the Lord continue to bless and keep you in His grace,

Bishop Carlos J. Lennon
