Welcome again to this week's word for the week. What do you hope to get out of this journey of walking with Christ? That may sound like a trick question but it's not. What are you really looking to get out of this? It sounds like an easy answer and it should be but it's not always the case for everyone. There are so many distractions around us in this world until if we're not careful we can easily be swayed off course. Does it have to be this way? Of course not but there are choices we must make.
The bible tells us to be ready to give an answer for the hope that is in us. We have to do more than just walk around and say God will make a way. We have to do more than just say he's a good God. That makes sense to those are belong to Christ. What does that say to the unsaved? Really think about what I'm saying here. This walk is about action. If we want anyone to believe God is good we must demonstrate His goodness with our life living. We must walk in a way that gives others hope.
If you ask some people for a list of what they hope to get out of this journey it will shock you to see some lists may not include eternity with Christ. Everything around us is so driven by the right now until we forget we're saved not just for the right now but for eternity. Our goal should be to spend eternity with Christ. That takes sacrifice and it takes diligence. It takes much prayer and it takes much faith. We must go through many trials and still hold on to God. We can never lose hope and be so quick to give up.
There is a reward waiting for us if we hang in there with God. There is a crown of life, eternal joy, peace, no sorrows, no sickness, no more tears, and a host of other things that make eternal life with Christ so rewarding. We spend so much time preparing for trips, events, and places to go. We need to spend more time making sure our eternal life with Christ is secure. It's not a hard thing to do and trust me that this week's word is not meant to make anyone feel bad. It's actually meant to refocus us and bring us back to what's most important.
We go through so much here if we're honest. We suffer, we cry, we have pains, sorrows, tough times, lonely times, endure people walking out of our lives, be misunderstood, and so many more things. There can be no greater thing to hear when it's all over but to hear the words that say well done thou good and faithful servant. What can truly be more rewarding than to find out you get to enter into an eternal life with Christ? The point this week is not get so sidetracked by the daily affairs of this life until you forget this is not even what it's all about. We are simply passing through here. Heaven is where we hope to spend the our eternity.
Don't worry about tomorrow as it will take care of itself. Don't worry about the outcome of your situation that only God can control. Don't be discouraged by temporary things that will pass by in due time. Don't be frustrated by what it looks like right now when it's all subject to change at any given time. Don't lose your hope of eternity over something that is just a test at the moment. Hold on is the point and have a determination to never let go of God. It's never over until God says it's over so don't quit now. Your due season is closer than you think!
May the Lord continue to bless and keep you in His grace,
Bishop Carlos J. Lennon
