Welcome again to this week's word for the week. Let's start out this week by asking two simple but powerful questions. How much more time do you have left to live? When is Christ coming back? The truth is none of know the answer to either of those questions. While it would be nice to know, the reality is that we will never know the answer to either of those questions.
What are we supposed to do? We are supposed to simply be ready. There is nothing else we can do. We are charged to live this life for Christ. We are instructed to not count on tomorrow because it may not be here for us. We are instructed to trust God for our salvation. We are instructed to be holy because God is holy. We are instructed to do a lot of things that will only benefit us. The question we must ask ourselves is are we doing our part? Are we living a life in preparation for Christ's return or just for the moment?
The enemy has a simple strategy. It is to simply blind us from the truth. While simple in nature it is powerful due to the various ways he employs those tactics. Many things in this life that appear to be one thing are not what they seem to be. There are too many Christians who simply believe what they want to believe. They live how they choose to live with no regard to eternity. Eternity is not a temporary place. It is permanent. Flesh and blood cannot enter into the kingdom of God and yet everyday there are Christians who live according to how they feel.
Let me ask you a powerful question. Is God really pleased with you? That is not the easiest question to answer for some people and yet every child of God should be able to say yes. The fact that so many have to even think about that question points to the fact that there are many who are not ready. There is wide open road to destruction. There are many people on that road because no sacrifice is needed to be there. There is a straight and narrow road that leads to righteousness. That road is not crowded because it takes sacrifice to be there. No one on that road is there because they are still holding on to things. Everyone on that road is there because they have given up some things.
A lot of people go through the motions everyday. Their thought process is that they have time. I'm not sure how anyone can honestly say that when none of us including Christ knows when He will return. How many people are still showing up to the banquet without any oil in their lamps? At what point do we learn and accept the whole truth of God? I don't believe every believer who may end up in hell gets there because they don't care. I believe they get there because the cares of this world mattered more to them than the One who created this world.
There is a simple point this week. Don't allow yourself to be so caught up in the temporary moments of life until you fail to realize what the ultimate goal of this Christian walk is about. Don't miss an eternity of promise chasing after things that come and go. Look over your life this week. Take a good look at the things that used to matter to you that no longer do. Some of those you needed to let go of. Some of those things may be things that you need to pick back up with God. Don't be a child of promise who ends up with a permanent forfeiting of their destiny. Give this some thought this week.
May the Lord continue to bless and keep you in His grace,
