Welcome again to this week's word for the week. If you look around you there is something you will quickly notice if you're a believer in Christ. Everyone doesn't share your enthusiasm for Christ. There are things about Jesus that may outright excite you. The first thing you sometimes want to do is simply tell someone how great He is to you and what He means to you. What do you do when it seems like others do not want to hear about your Jesus?
This is one of the toughest things a believer has to deal with when it comes to their witness for Christ. We are to be a light that shines bright. We are to let that light shine bright so that others may see it and be drawn to Christ. Yet, there are times when others don't even seem to care. If you're not careful this can outright derail you. You would be surprised at the amount of people who just go into silence because it seems like nobody wants to hear about their Jesus.
Let's talk about something that will hopefully bless and encourage you. Realize that we are to live this walk and not simply talk it. There are times when it's not about what you say but rather how you carry yourself that matters more to others. People have heard all sorts of things in life. Some of it is good and some of it is not. Ask yourself this question. What are they really to do when they've heard so many things that are called truth? How are they supposed to be excited when so many who talk the most live the worst?
This brings me to this week's real point. Are you content to just talk about Christ or live the life of Christ? How many people could you really reach if you were steady and stable in your own walk? Give this some thought. You can't draw someone to Jesus if He hasn't completely drawn you. In others words, if you're not serious then neither will the people around you. This is not for everybody but there are far more people who hinder the name of Christ than there are those who further it. It doesn't take much to be a hindrance. All you have to do is say one thing and do another and there you go.
There is a multitude of people out there looking for truth. They are looking for what a saved life should look like. They have questions and some of those questions can only be answered by the way you walk. They want to know can anyone truly lived saved and the only thing they will believe is what they see. They want to see what forgiveness looks like. They want to see what trust and faith look like. They want to see holiness in action. They want to see can a person who is down today get up tomorrow. They want to see what joy looks like and how peace is lived out. They want to see it not hear it.
Anybody can say anything. Not everybody can do everything. We look at the world as Christians and we say people don't want Jesus today like they used to. What if they do? What if the problem is they don't see Him now like they used to? Do you know how many people still remember how Christians acted when they were young and growing up? They say faith and strength. They saw people hold on to God with everything they had. When those people look at the church today they don't see that like they used to. Therefore, they say what's the use and they stay away. Let me close by asking one question that you need to ask yourself everyday. Are you helping or hurting the plan of God?
May the Lord continue to bless and keep you in His grace,
Bishop Carlos J. Lennon
